Genesis, Mobilygen Enter into Cross-Licensing Agreement

Genesis Microchip has signed a cross licensing and co-development agreement and Mobilygen, a provider of video codec solutions for mobile devices. The agreement provides both companies with access to each other's technologies for select markets and enables them to jointly define future products to complement existing product portfolios. In addition, Genesis has made an equity investment in Mobilygen. Elie Antoun, Genesis Microchip's president and CEO, has joined Mobilygen's board of directors. The former chief scientist at Zoran, Sorin Cismas, founded Mobilygen in 1999. Based in Santa Clara, Calif., Mobilygen is developing low-power H.264 video compression ICs for mobile products such as digital still cameras, solid-state camcorders, and video-enabled mobile phones. The company's EVE ("Enabling Video Everywhere") architecture performs all media processing in hardware and enables ICs that combine extremely low power with very low clock rates.
